Keller & Guérin Lunéville Antique French Faïence Apple Plate Signed Obert
These beautiful antique French faïence apple plates were hand-painted by Keller & Guérin (K & G Lunéville), France, circa 1900. Each 8½-inch plate features richly colored apples in red, yellow, and golden tones with soft shading and depth, set against subtly graduated backgrounds in green, mauve, brown, and deep plum.
Signed “Obert” on the front and stamped K & G Lunéville France on the reverse, these plates showcase the luminous glazes and painterly style that made Lunéville fruitware so collectible during the Art Nouveau era. All retain original rear hanging holes for easy wall display.
Offered individually so collectors can select the perfect variation for a Lunéville fruit plate grouping, gallery wall, or cabinet display. While beautifully preserved overall, each shows minor signs of age and authentic tin-glazed character.
🍎 Apples on Green - Beautifully preserved with no cracks or chips; light age-appropriate crazing; small indent on back (likely from marking process)—a natural signature of its age.
🍎 Apples on Mauve - Equally well-preserved with no cracks or chips; some crazing primarily on the back—charming evidence of handcrafted origins.
🍎 Apples on Apricot Brown - Beautifully preserved with no cracks or chips; visible crazing consistent with antique faïence, adding honest character.
🍎 Apples on Deep Mauve - Great antique condition with no cracks or chips; light crazing; tiny pinpoint glaze nick on front (visible in photos)—subtle mark of age.
✨ Collector’s Note: Apple motifs were especially popular in French provincial faïence during the Art Nouveau era (c. 1890–1910), symbolizing abundance and domestic hospitality. Lunéville produced fruit patterns in smaller quantities than floral designs, which is why apple-decorated pieces surface less frequently today.
