Antique Carlsbad Austria Fish Plate – Transferware with Hand-Painted Details

A charming late 19th-century Carlsbad Austria transferware fish plate, imported by Hinrichs & Company of New York as part of their European decorative tableware line.

The plate features a beautifully rendered large fish motif at center, printed in transfer and enhanced with raised hand-painted white dots that create a subtle, tactile scale-like texture. Stylized water plants and grasses sweep along the rim, adding movement and a naturalistic touch. The softly scalloped edge is finished with delicate gold gilt, giving the piece an elegant Victorian-era presentation.

The 8 ¼ inches diameter plate is backstamped with the “H & C Carlsbad Austria” circular mark. Condition is honest antique condition, consistent with age and use, including: two hairline cracks at the rim near the lower edge and noticeable gilt wear to the rim. Still displays beautifully and retains wonderful character.

Perfect for coastal or lake house décor, antique kitchen display, cabinet or wall plates and for mixing into vintage tableware collections.
