Author Biography

Carl Sandburg (1878–1967), Pulitzer Prize–winning poet and historian, is remembered as the “poet of the people.” His Abraham Lincoln: The Prairie Years (1926) and The War Years (1939) are regarded as some of the most influential biographies of America’s 16th president.

The Sangamon Edition—named for the Sangamon River near Lincoln’s Springfield, Illinois home—was released in 1948 to bring these volumes together in a handsome, collector-quality format.
