Romantic Operetta Sheet Music with Marguerita Sylva Cover, c.1911

Collector’s Note

Antique vaudeville, theatre and operetta sheet music selections are consistently collectible, especially oversized pieces that retain original uncut margins and those that feature performer photography.

Gypsy Love (also seen as Gipsy Love) is an operetta by Franz Lehár that first premiered in Vienna in 1910. This U.S. edition aligns with the 1911 American production promoted by A.H. Woods--starring Marguerita Sylva with English-language lyrics credited to Harry B. Smith and Robert B. Smith. The sheet music includes The Melody of Love. The cover combines a studio photograph of Sylva (credited to Moffett Studios, Chicago) with an illustration dated 1909 attributed to Othmar Fabro, blending late-Victorian / early Art Nouveau sensibilities.

Oversize and uncut, measuring 10 ⅝" by 14". Condition is very good overall: the pages are loose from the cover, but the front cover edges are clean with no major fraying or tears—ideal for framing and display. Chappell stamp on front cover.

Framing Appeal

Decorate with a touch of early Broadway glamour and Art Nouveau flair with this oversize Gypsy Love sheet music featuring a striking photo of mezzo-soprano Marguerita Sylva. The green-tinted sepia palette and mixed photo/illustration design make it especially frame-worthy.

Listen to Marguerita Silva perform Gypsy Love's song, The Melody of Love here.

Just a quick heads‑up: the photos reveal details far better than text alone, so they’re worth a close review.

Collecting old sheet music invites you into a world where history, art, and melody intertwine. Each piece is more than printed notation—it's a preserved moment in time. For music lovers, history buffs, and creative minds alike, building a collection offers both personal satisfaction and the possibility of uncovering items of real value.

From classical masterpieces to the spirited energy of the Jazz Age, vintage sheet music reflects how music shaped culture across generations. First editions of composers like Chopin or Gershwin are especially coveted, treasured for their historical and monetary worth. As Smithsonian Magazine notes, these artifacts provide a vivid window into America’s musical and cultural evolution.
