Unique postwar Pacific history enameled cigarette case and lighter set with Japanese imagery.

Collector’s Note

Occupation-era and Korean War souvenir pieces are increasingly sought after because they capture a unique period in postwar Pacific history. This colorful enameled cigarette case and lighter set combines iconic Japanese imagery—including Mount Fuji and cherry blossoms—with a map identifying major cities across Japan and Korea. Originally purchased as a keepsake by an American serviceman stationed overseas, the set represents the era when military personnel often brought home finely crafted Japanese souvenirs as reminders of their service and travels.

Collectors of militaria, occupation-era memorabilia, tobacciana, and postwar Japanese export goods appreciate these pieces for their distinctive enamel work, historical associations, and increasingly limited survival as complete matching sets.

Step back into the years immediately following World War II with this striking Memory of Japan & Korea enameled cigarette case and matching lighter set, produced in Japan during the American military presence in the Pacific region.

Finished in vivid shades of emerald green enamel, both pieces feature a beautifully detailed design centered on snow-capped Mount Fuji, surrounded by the mapped outlines of Japan and Korea. Major cities—including Tokyo, Yokohama, Osaka, Kobe, Hiroshima, Sapporo, Seoul, Pyongyang, Pusan, Okinawa, and others—are identified in gold lettering. Delicate pink cherry blossoms frame the lower portion of the design, creating a distinctly Japanese aesthetic that appealed to foreign visitors and servicemen alike.

Above the mountain appears the inscription "Memory of Japan & Korea" along with a globe-and-laurel emblem reminiscent of military insignia used throughout the Pacific theater during the postwar period.

The cigarette case opens via a push-button release to reveal a silver-tone interior fitted with its original spring retention system for holding cigarettes securely in place. The hinge and closure function properly.

Accompanying the case is the matching enamel lighter, marked LONGIN on the mechanism and Longins Tokyo Japan on the base. The lighter remains an attractive display piece and is offered as found, untested.

The matching enamel decoration, surviving pair format, and strong visual appeal make this an excellent addition to collections of:

  • World War II and Korean War memorabilia
  • Occupation-era souvenirs
  • Japanese export wares
  • Tobacciana Vintage smoking accessories
  • Mount Fuji and Japan travel collectibles
