A striking example of Mid-Century Modern entertaining ware by Culver Ltd., this large glass salad and serving bowl features the company's collectible Pisa pattern, dating to the 1960s.

The dramatic design combines clear glass with rich emerald-green enamel and lavish 22-karat gold decoration. Two broad exterior bands are filled with repeating oval reserves against Culver's distinctive crackled gold surface, allowing glimpses of the green decoration beneath. Viewed from inside the bowl, the design reverses beautifully—the emerald-green crackle ground and gold-framed ovals form concentric bands around the clear center.

The repeating architectural ovals give Pisa its unmistakable graphic quality and make the pattern particularly well suited to Mid-Century Modern interiors and vintage barware collections. The Pisa pattern was inspired by the successive arches of the Leaning Tower of Pisa, giving the design its name.

Period Pisa pieces were produced in numerous entertaining forms, including cocktail glasses and ice bowls. At approximately 10¾ inches in diameter, this is the larger serving form associated with the Pisa salad service rather than the smaller individual ice bowl. A wonderful statement piece for a vintage bar or dining table, it can be used as originally intended as a large salad or serving bowl or repurposed as an especially glamorous ice bowl for entertaining.

Condition

Good vintage condition with no chips or cracks noted. There is age-related wear to the applied decoration, including areas of rubbing/loss to the gold and green enamel, most noticeably along the upper edge of the exterior gold band.
