PILGRIM CRANBERRY GLASS Vase with Fancy Rigaree Collar and Optic Stripe Circa 1980s

Regular price $37.00 $0.00

Availability: 1

This offering is for a beautiful vintage hand blown CRANBERRY GLASS VASE by the PILGRIM GLASS Corporation of West Virginia, circa 1980s. The optic stripes in the vase's design are accented with an applied rigaree collar encircling the neck. The rigaree is delicately twisted and is also cranberry glass.

The flower vase stands nearly 6” tall and the rim is 2 ½”" wide. The pontil is inset and polished. The vase is in wonderful condition and has no chips, cracks or repairs.  Would make a great addition to anyone's cranberry or vintage glass collection.

History of Pilgrim Cranberry Glass: Pilgrim Glass Corporation was founded in 1956 by Alfred Knobler in Ceredo, West Virginia. During its early production years, Pilgrim primarily made crackle glass and art glass, similar to Blenko. However, in 1968, Pilgrim made its mark in the glass industry when it introduced some of the most beautiful colored glass in the world, Pilgrim Cranberry Glass.

Few companies could produce the hand blown cranberry glass successfully for several reasons. The glass was blown by mouth and shaped by hand so could not be made in large quantities. Secondly, it was often difficult to achieve the rich cranberry color as glassblowers added gold chloride to the molten glass during manufacturing—a very temperamental process. Additionally, the complicated process required multiple glass workers to produce one piece.
