PILGRIM CRANBERRY GLASS Pitcher with Optic Swirl and Applied Glass Rib Handle Circa 1976 to 2001
Offering a vintage hand-blown CRANBERRY GLASS PITCHER produced by PILGRIM GLASS of West Virginia, circa 1976 - 2001. The tiny pitcher has the distinctive optic swirl pattern. The rim of the pitcher is smooth and the applied crystal handle is very delicate and designed with a reed pattern. The color is similar to a rosy pink cranberry.
Measuring about nearly 4" tall, this cranberry glass pitcher will hold about 4 ounces of liquid. There is a pontil scar on the bottom. The piece is in great condition and has no chips, cracks or repairs. Would be a wonderful edition to any collector's Pilgrim or cranberry glass collection---or for someone who is not a collector of glass, perfect for their morning cream.
Note: The images appear to show that the piece is dirty in spots, however that is only the reflections of the handle and rim.
History of Pilgrim Cranberry Glass: Pilgrim Glass Corporation was founded in 1956 by Alfred Knobler in Ceredo, West Virginia. During its early production years, Pilgrim primarily made crackle glass and art glass, similar to Blenko. However, in 1968, Pilgrim made its mark in the glass industry when it introduced some of the most beautiful colored glass in the world, Pilgrim Cranberry Glass.
Few companies could produce the hand blown cranberry glass successfully for several reasons. The glass was blown by mouth and shaped by hand so could not be made in large quantities. Secondly, it was often difficult to achieve the rich cranberry color as glassblowers added gold chloride to the molten glass during manufacturing—a very temperamental process. Additionally, the complicated process required multiple glass workers to produce one piece.
