Regular price $38.00 $0.00

Availability: 1

Set of two (2) beautiful and HAND BLOWN CRANBERRY GLASS BAUBLES OR BALLS made by the PILGRIM GLASS Company, circa 1970s.  The glass balls were made using Pilgrim’s popular “optic” pattern.  Each ball measures approximately 3 ½” in diameter (4 ¼” high with hanging loop on top).

The glass balls may be used as Christmas tree ornaments or used as a “fairy globe” and hung year-round in a window.  Folklore suggests that fairy globes attract friendly spirits, bringing good fortune to the home.

Both are in fantastic condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs.

History of Pilgrim Cranberry Glass:

Pilgrim Glass Corporation was founded in 1956 by Alfred Knobler in Ceredo, West Virginia. During its early production years, Pilgrim primarily made crackle glass and art glass, similar to Blenko. However, in 1968, Pilgrim made its mark in the glass industry when it introduced some of the most beautiful colored glass in the world, Pilgrim Cranberry Glass.

Few companies could produce the hand blown cranberry glass successfully for several reasons. The glass was blown by mouth and shaped by hand so could not be made in large quantities. Secondly, it was often difficult to achieve the rich cranberry color as glassblowers added gold chloride to the molten glass during manufacturing—a very temperamental process. Additionally, the complicated process required multiple glass workers to produce one piece.
