MEMORY OF JAPAN & KOREA Enameled Cigarette Case and Lighter Set Souvenir World War II Pacific War Circa 1945 - 1953
Colorful green enameled MEMORY OF JAPAN & KOREA CIGARETTE CASE and LIGHTER SET, a souvenir for American soldiers who served in the Pacific War of World War II and the ensuing Korean conflict that followed.
Centered on the front of both the cigarette case and lighter is a gorgeous depiction of a snow-capped Mount Fuji accented by the islands of Japan and Korea, with the names of several cities—many which were occupied by U.S. military at the time printed in gold. Beautiful pink Sakura or Japanese cherry blossoms are showcased across the bottom and right sides of the set.
Above Mount Fuji is a gorgeous sky in variegated stripes of emerald green and gold lettering that reads, Memory of Japan & Korea. A version of what appears to be a version of the U.S. Pacific Command emblem—a gold grid-lined world globe featuring the Pacific region encircled by laurel branches, is offset below the wording. The variegated emerald green stripes continue on the enameled back of each piece.
The cigarette case opens with a push button to a silver tone interior that holds the cigarettes with a thin spring-type chain. The hinge and push button work well. It measures about 3 ¾” wide by 3 ⅜” high.
The lighter is marked Longins Tokyo Japan on the bottom and LONGIN on the mechanism on the top. The lighter is untested and measures 1 ⅞” high by 1 ⅝” wide.
Both pieces show use with light scratches and tiny areas of missing enamel, but the set is beautiful, regardless and would be a nice addition to someone’s militaria or tobacciana collection.
