LUNÉVILLE FRANCE FAIENCE 8 ½” SERVING BOWL (1) Strawberries Circa Late 19th Century

Regular price $62.00 $0.00

Availability: 1

Founded in 1730, LUNÉVILLE FAIENCE of Lorraine France, is one of the most famous French pottery manufacturers.

This 8 ½” SERVING BOWL manufactured by Lunéville Faience is decorated in a bright red and green strawberries and leaves pattern. The glaze process appears to be transferware as the colors have been made to bleed together and create a halo effect, similar to the flow blue process. This rare strawberry pattern by Lunéville Faience is difficult to find.

The mark, LUNÉVILLE OPAQUE FRANCE dates the bowl circa late 19th to early 20th century. In addition to the stamped mark, there is an embossed stamp (circle with double hook) and letter on the bottom of the bowl.

The bowl is in wonderful antique condition. There are a few very tiny nibs and light crazing, but nothing that would not be expected in pieces of this age. I’ve done my best to show the condition of the bowl in the attached photos, but if you need additional photos, please ask.

Faience or Faïence: Faience is the name for tin-glazed earthenware pottery.  The ware is variously called faience, majolica and/or delftware, depending on its origin. The glaze for faience earthenware includes the addition of tin oxide.  Most often the earthenware is decorated with high-temperature colors.  Unlike lead-glazed earthenware, tin-glazed ware is painted on a fired body that has been coated with a raw glaze material and fired at a lower temperature. For more Lunéville France see our Lunéville Faience in Collections.
