Wonderful antique FRENCH FAIENCE FRUIT PLATE WITH PEARS BY KELLER & GUERIN FRANCE, known as K & G LUNÉVILLE.  The piece is circa 1890.

The FAIENCE PLATE is hand painted and features luscious looking pears on a bright blue background.  The term faience, refers to the tin-glazed process used for earthenware pottery, and depending on the origin, may be called majolica or delftware.

The edge is delicately scalloped and trimmed in a gold gilt. The back is stamped with the maker’s mark, K & G Lunéville France. Below the mark are the words, Déposé, signifying the company had a design patent or registration of the design so it could not be copied.

Measuring 8 ½” in diameter, the plate is in very great antique condition with no cracks or chips. There is some discoloration and crazing, primarily visible on the back and the gold gilt is worn is some places.

In 1786, Sébastien Keller purchased the company, and for the next 137 years, the Keller family controlled the company. About 1832, Keller's son aligned with his brother-in-law Guérin to give birth to the mark K & G (or KG) from the names Keller and Guérin.
