PILGRIM CRANBERRY GLASS Bud Vase with Crimped Edge Circa 1980
Listing a beautiful blown glass bud vase, circa 1980 made by the PILGRIM GLASS Corporation of West Virginia.
The vase stands about 7 ½” tall and the bulb of the base measures 3" at the widest point. The rim of the vase is crimped in a soft ruffle. Unlike many pieces by Pilgrim, the piece is marked and etched with the name PILGRIM CRANBERRY on the bottom.
The bud vase is in great condition with no chips, cracks, scratches, cloudiness or stains.
Would be a wonderful edition to any collector's Pilgrim or cranberry glass collection---or for someone who is not a collector of glass, perfect to display a fresh rose or two.
History of Pilgrim Cranberry Glass
Pilgrim Glass Corporation was founded in 1956 by Alfred Knobler in Ceredo, West Virginia. During its early production years, Pilgrim primarily made crackle glass and art glass, similar to Blenko. However, in 1968, Pilgrim made its mark in the glass industry when it introduced some of the most beautiful colored glass in the world, Pilgrim Cranberry Glass.
Few companies could produce the hand blown cranberry glass successfully for several reasons. The glass was blown by mouth and shaped by hand so could not be made in large quantities. Secondly, it was often difficult to achieve the rich cranberry color as glassblowers added gold chloride to the molten glass during manufacturing—a very temperamental process. Additionally, the complicated process required multiple glass workers to produce one piece.
