Wonderful antique FRENCH FAIENCE FRUIT PLATTER WITH APPLES AND CHERRIES BY KELLER & GUERIN FRANCE, known as K & G LUNÉVILLE.  The piece is circa 1890.

The FAIENCE PLATTER is hand painted and features red apples  with a yellow tinge hanging from a branch and bright cherries on a deep mauve and light green background. The edge is delicately scalloped and trimmed in a gold gilt.

The back is stamped with the maker’s mark, K & G Lunéville France. Below the mark are the words, Déposé, signifying the company had a design patent or registration of the design so it could not be copied.

Measuring 11 ¼” in diameter, the platter is in wonderful antique condition with no cracks or chips. There is some crazing, primarily visible on the back. There are two drilled holes on the back so the piece may be hung easily.

The term faience, refers to the tin-glazed process used for earthenware pottery, and depending on the origin, may be called majolica or delftware.

About K & G Lunéville France:  Founded in 1730, K & G Lunéville was one of the most famous French pottery manufacturers. In 1786, Sébastien Keller purchased the company, and for the next 137 years, the Keller family controlled the company. About 1832, Keller's son aligned with his brother-in-law Guérin to give birth to the mark K & G (or KG) from the names Keller and Guérin.
