MADE IN JAPAN BISCUIT OR COOKIE JAR Strawberry Design with Rattan Handle Circa Late 1930s to 1941
This listing is for a circa late 1930s to 1941 BISCUIT JAR MADE IN JAPAN.
Circling the top of the biscuit jar is a band of hand painted strawberries, vines and leaves. The same pattern is hand painted on the lid. An embossed rib pattern decorates the bottom half of the jar. Finishing the jar’s design, is a cute rattan handle. The jar stands approximately 5” tall without the lid and 6 ½” with the lid. The bowl of the jar is 5 ¼” in diameter.
The stamp on the bottom of the jar reads, MADE IN JAPAN, beside a diamond shape that encloses a double S. There is also a row of Japanese letters that are difficult to decipher.
The jar is in great vintage condition. The rattan handle is in excellent shape and the inside of the jar is very clean with no brown staining or spots. There is crazing as would be expected with a ceramic piece of this age. There are no cracks in the biscuit jar; however, there are a few fine cracks on the lid. Please examine the photos carefully.
This biscuit jar would make a lovely addition to a vintage style kitchen or would make a great housewarming gift filled with home-baked cookies!
