Offering a CHILD PORRIDGE BOWL or feeding dish made by Harker Pottery. The company, located in East Liverpool, Ohio is said to be the one of the oldest, if not the oldest pottery company in the United States, beginning production in 1839.

The center of the semi-porcelain white bowl is decorated with a mother hen nesting on a bed of straw surrounded by her baby chicks. Surrounding the artwork is a red, brown and gold band. The rim of the bowl has an ⅛” wide stripe of gold gilt.

According to Lehner’s book on marks, the mark on the bowl was used prior to 1900. I’m estimating this piece to be circa 1895. I’ve included the page from Lehner’s book in the photos.

Surprisingly for a child’s dish, and adding to that being 100+ years old, the piece is in wonderful condition. There is a small amount of the transfer missing from the band surround the artwork, but other than that, no crazing, chips, scratches or cracks. It's rare to find child's feeding dishes in this condition.

The bowl measures a little over 7” in diameter and 1 ½” high. The rim is nearly ¾” wide. The piece is heavy weighing nearly over 1 ½ pounds.
