Ladies Parlor B.F. Keith Theatre DAYTON OHIO Antique Linen Postcard Circa 1920s
Antique linen era souvenir postcard--the artwork depicts the Ladies Parlor B.F. Keith Theatre, a live show theatre which opened November 27, 1922 in Dayton, Ohio. No expense was spared for this theatre, with two heavily carpeted marble staircases leading to the first promenade, decorated with rare, antique French furniture. Elaborately furnished was also the mens and ladies rooms.
By 1929 vaudeville was being phased out and the B.F. Keiths Theatre became a full time movie house with occasional live shows. In 1930, RKO bought the theatre and it became known as RKO Keith’s Theatre. It came to a sad end in 1967 when it was demolished. Fortunately, its 657-pipe Wurlitzer organ, original to the theatre was saved by a local organ enthusiast and has since been restored by the Medford Chevalier Theatre in Maine.
