Rare EL PLANCO SEGARROS HABANA CIGAR BOX from 1910 to 1920.
EL PLANCO HABANA cigars were manufactured by Vincent M. Planco of Ruy Suarez Company, a New York manufacturer of Havana goods and tobacco. The El Planco brand gained popularity with fine tobacco enthusiasts in the early 1900s and was sold by some of the best tobacco shops and men's clubs.
The small brown cigar box measures just under 4" by 2 ¾” and is less than 1" in depth. Although it is difficult to read as the printing is light, the El Planco Segrarros oval logo is on the top of the box. Inside the box are six round cigar labels/bands made of gilded gold paper. The brown and gold lithograph brand imagery for which El Planco was well known, is printed on a label inside the lid.
The design features a pen and ink drawing of monarch--possibly King Ferdinand VI of Spain set inside a gilded gold frame. Above the frame reads, EL PLANCO, and below, HABANA. Bordering the frame on both sides in Spanish are the words,
