THE TEXAS EXPERIENCE: Friendship & Food Texas Style is a regional cookbook published in 1982 by the Richardson Woman's Club.  The cookbook has been named a Southern Living Hall of Fame winner.

Introduction written by Frank Tolbert, co-founder of the Annual World's Championship Chili Cook-Off and author of multiple cookbooks. The book includes Frank's Texas chili recipe.

Throughout the cookbook, colorful photographs highlight sample party menus throughout the cookbook--like a Dallas Cowboys Tail Gate featuring Clark Gable's Pork Tenderloin and Driskill Hotel Cheese Soup; the Texas State Fair featuring Salt Water Taffy and Corny Dogs; and Dinner on the Grounds featuring Crunchy Fried Chicken and East Texas Biscuits. The 372-page cookbook is filled more than 130 recipes.

The hardbound cookbook is in good used condition. The Southern Living Hall of Fame sticker is on the front. This is a copy from the eighth printing in 1993.

A must-have addition to your culinary library, this cookbook is an example of a community cookbook. Frequently published by a group of women as a fundraiser, these treasured cookbooks allow us to gain a unique insight into American culture, social norms, and the collective history during an era. Through the recipes, kitchen equipment used, household hints and headnotes, the reader is provided a valuable snapshot of historical details that might not be documented elsewhere. As a result, these cookbooks have become unofficial records of the past, often valued by collectors and culinary scholars more for their historical relevance, than the recipes inside.
